Last week Digg changed their Algo so the more mutual friends you have, the more Digg’s it will take to get your story popular. OK at first I was like cool thats not a huge deal until it takes people 23 1/2 hours and 200+ Digg’s to get a story popular now. Before Digg made the change last week it would take maybe 10 hours and 90 Digg’s at the most to get popular. The worst part about this is people who do not regularly participate on Digg and have zero friends can get by with less then 60 Digg’s still.
This is not right what Digg has done to the community who has supplied them with quality stories and made their site worth $300 Million!. So as the title says you got to ask yourself, why support someone who does not give two craps about you.
A few months back I used to let my friend use Digg from my office, he ended up getting banned and my IP has been blocked for over a month already. I sent countless e-mails to Digg support and never received an Answer back thus referring to this post. This is not how you run a business!. With my business I make sure that every e-mail is answered and every phone call is called back. That is what you call respect for your customers and respect for your business.
So what have I done about this? Simple I started my own Digg type site. The site is a sub-domain on my bookmarking site www.upchuckr.com . The direct address to the new site is upchuckit.upchuckr.com . I am keeping Upchuckit as a Niche site rather just being general which will keep it apart from Digg. The Niche that I chose is Web-mastering. I will accept stories that have to do with SEO, Site administration, Making money and so on. Upchuckit works the same way as Digg where users vote on a story to get to the front . I launched the bookmarking site last month and the sub-domain this week so I am hoping that they will both take off.
Feel free to leave me and questions or comments about the sites.
